REV. WILLIAM B. BASSETT
“May The Work I’ve Done, Speak For Me”
Reverend William B. Bassett, husband of the late Catherine Bassett, passed away Monday evening, September 30, 2013, in Walter Reed Convalescent Center, Gloucester, Virginia. reverend Bassett’s life began on august 6, 1924, the son of the late Lillie Elliott Bassett and Bolden Bassett of Barhamsville, Virginia.
On June 5, 1992, Reverend Bassett received a certificate of Theology from Virginia Union University, Richmond, Virginia. He retired after more than thirty years of dedicated service from the Transportation Department, Fort Eustis, Virginia.
He was also preceded in death by a son, William S. Bassett and eight sibling’s. he leaves to cherish his blessed memories his daughter, Leona B. Burrell; his son, Richard Bassett; his grand-daughters, Catherine Farley (Scott), Andrea Swann (Gerard) and Altheia D. Bassett; his grandsons, Toissant and Adrian Bassett; his five great-grandchildren; his sister, Mrs. Frances Wake; his brother, Deacon Enoch Bassett; his sisters-in-law, Mrs. Bessie Williams and Mrs. Gertrude Bassett; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many caring friends.
A celebration of his life will be held 12:00 noon on Monday, October 7, 2013, in Whiting’s Chapel with the Rev. Morris Randall officiating. Interment will follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home by 11:45 a.m. on Monday. Rev. Bassett may be viewed in the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.
