Dano Rodney Phillips (Sluggo) was the first-born son of Louise Phillips and the late Dano Phillips; was born on September 7, 1956, in Ft Meade, MD and departed this life on September 5, 2019.
Dano, at a very young age, accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at St. John Baptist Church, Williamsburg, Virginia. Later in life, he became a member of the New Mount Olive Baptist Church, Chesapeake, Virginia.
Dano was educated in the York County Public Schools; graduating from York High School in 1974. He continued his education at Strafford College as well as several Trade Schools around the country.
In 1981, he met the love of his life, Stephanie, when she was celebrating her first home purchase. From that day forward, Dano and Stephanie were inseparable and was married six months later. They were blessed with two children, Brandon Tillman, age 35 and Sable Renee Phillips, age 28.
Dano began his career in the nuclear power industry and worked for the Dwayne Arnold Nuclear Power Plant, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In 1990, he accepted a position with General Mills as a Quality Control Engineer.
Dano applied the many skills and talents he learned from his late father and used those to open his own car detailing business. Later he won a lucrative contract with the most prominent antique car dealer in Cedar Rapids. Eventually, he expanded his business to include hardwood floor, carpet and tile installations; his business became the Apostle Tile Company.
He leaves to cherish fond and loving memories with his devoted wife, Stephanie; children Brandon and Sable; devoted mother, Louise Phillips; three sisters, Sharia White, Peggy Renee Everett (Robert), Chaela Phillips; brother, Ricky Phillips; niece, Tiffany Phillips; four nephews, Davion Hutchinson, Jaeden Phillips, Devin Jackson, and Jarod Everett; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The Family wishes to extend a special thank you to Eric (Tony) Edmond and Greer (Aunt Pie) Mack. We also acknowledge and thank everyone who has extended their condolences and words of sympathy and encouragement during our time of bereavement.
