Fleming Emmanuel Pierce Jr. born June 20, 1937, in Magruder, now known as Camp Peary, to the late Christine Wallace and Emanuel Pierce, departed this earthly life on Tuesday, December 3, 2019.
F.E, as he was affectionately called, was raised in Mount Gilead Baptist Church and was active in Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, the senior choir, and was a trustee for a number of years. Whenever there was a beautification project at the church, F.E. was always there.
Fleming attended the Williamsburg-James City County schools; graduating from the Bruton Heights school. He earned a degree in Instrumental Music at Fayetteville State University. After graduation, he taught in the Culpepper Public schools where he met his first wife. From that marriage, two sons were born. After two years, F.E returned to Williamsburg. There, he completed twenty-one years working as a teacher, coach, and mentor. He was known to be strict, but always fair.
It was when he returned to Williamsburg that he met and married his wife of fifty-two years, and from that marriage, a son and daughter were born. After retiring from teaching, F.E. started a new career at Anheuser Busch; where he worked for another twenty-one years.
He loved his family, church, music, horses, and bowling. He could be seen for many years riding in the annual Christmas parade in Williamsburg. He also bowled with a local bowling league for many years. Our faith and hope in God leads us to take comfort in his many kind acts and deeds done for others.
Fleming leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Elizabeth; three sons, Jeffrey (Sue), Gregory, and Anthony; daughter, Angela; two grandchildren, Danielle and Anthony, Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Carter and Noah; brother, Bernard Bowman (Rosetta Lee); sister, Kaye Molley; two devoted caregivers, Hattie Baubore, and Beatrice Jordan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 7, 2019, in Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends to assemble at the church by 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Mr. Pierce may be viewed on Saturday beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the hour of his service.
