Franklin O’Brian Armstead know by all as the “Funk Machine”, was called to eternal rest on Saturday, December 14, 2019, at home surrounded by family and friends. His earthly journey began on February 11, 1960, the son of Mary Armstead, of Charles City County.
At an early age, he accepted the Lord as his Personal Savior and joined hands in fellowship with Chickahominy Baptist Church. His God given talent of playing the drums led him to play for Parrish Hill Baptist Church in Charles City, as well as the “Fly By Night” Band.
Franklin was educated in the Charles City County Public Schools. He worked various jobs in his career, lastly as a Facilities Manager for the Virginia Department of Transportation. He loved his family and friends. Franklin also loved music and would play it loudly all day long. His witty personality will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Wesley Walker and niece, Capria Jones. Franklin leaves fond and loving memories with his children, Franklin Downing-Seldon (Mark), Natalie Dobson, Christopher Adkins, Keith Robinson (Nikki), Doniece Jones, Keishawnna Jones, Courtney Robinson, and Cassandra Robinson; grandchildren, Christopher Adkins Jr., Kyrie Adkins, Tamon Dobson, Jaidah Dobson, Wesley Walker, Kamari King, Kaeveon Adkins, Diamond Robinson, Santanna, Brooklynn, and DaMari; mother, Mary Walker; grandmother, Martha Armstead; sisters, Crystal Jones (Efrem) and Annette Richard; brother, Bruce Meekins and Theodore Richard Jr.; sister-in-law, Christine Walker; favorite nephews, Quayshawn Walker and Cortez Jones; special friend, Jackie Brown; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A service to celebrate the “Funk Machine’s” life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2019, in CBC World Ministry, 2900 Chickahominy Road, Toano, with Apostle Corwin Hammond officiating. Family and friends to assemble at the church by 12:30 p.m. Mr. Armstead may be viewed on Friday beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the hour of his service.
