Mr. Gary Lee Watkins was born May 10, 1960, the son of the late Roosevelt and Gladys Watkins. He received his Heavenly Reward on Tuesday, August 13, 2019, after a long battle with cancer. He left this world to join those he missed so much, his father, Roosevelt O. Watkins, mother Gladys Gray Watkins, brothers, Joshua “Peter "Watkins, James “Billy "Watkins, and sister-in-law, Loretia Watkins.
Gary graduated from Hampton High School, Hampton, VA. He earned a degree in Agriculture at Fayetteville Technical Community College, Fayetteville, North Carolina. Gary worked as an electrician, a cook and a forklift driver in Fayetteville, NC until his health began to fail; returning to Virginia to live with his sister.
Gary’s favorite pastime was growing flowers and cooking. He was known to feed the entire neighborhood. He was a loving, devoted and kind person. He would go above and beyond to please others.
Fond memories will forever remain with his two brothers, Roy Watkins, of Newport News, Virginia and Rickey Watkins, of Hampton, Virginia, sister, Mary A. Watkins, of Williamsburg, Virginia; aunt, Cora Jones, of Newport News, Virginia; Uncle, Frank Gray, of Newport News, Virginia; mother of his daughters, Linda Watkins; daughters, Lavonne Watkins of Portsmouth, Virginia, and Tekisha Anderson (Solomon) of Newport News, Virginia; mother of his sons, Bernadette Hampton; sons, Dominique Watkins, Joshua Watkins, and Brandon Watkins, all of Fayetteville, North Carolina; favorite cousin/best friend, Richard Jones; nine grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A service in remembrance of his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 20, 2019, in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, with Dr. Ronald A. Ellis, officiating. Interment with military honors to follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at the church by 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mr. Watkins may be viewed on Tuesday beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the hour of his service.
