Judy Wallace Obituary

At sunset on Tuesday, July 9, 2019, God in His Almighty powers called home for eternal rest, our beloved, Judy Traherne Patterson-Wallace. Her life’s journey began on June 17, 1940, as the oldest daughter of the late James and Emma Sue Patterson.

Judy was born and raised in Roanoke, VA. Because of school segregation, she was bused to nearby Salem, VA, to attend school. At an early age, she accepted Christ into her life and was baptized at Slate Hill Baptist Church. Later she would join in Fellowship with Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.  Prior to settling down in Williamsburg, VA, Judy and her husband Curtis traveled and lived all along the eastern United States, from Jacksonville, FL, and Pinehurst, NC, up to New Jersey.

When her son, Jeff, had a life-threatening medical emergency in 2004, Judy came down to Columbia, SC, to be by his side and never returned to Virginia. She sold her house in the historic Grove community and relocated to South Carolina to be near her Family, but more importantly to be closer to her grandchildren, whom she wholeheartedly and generously helped raise.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Wallace, Sr.; step-mother, Hilda Patterson; two stepsons, Curtis Wallace, Jr., and Alpheus Wallace; sister, Brenda Cooper; and brothers, Nelson Patterson and Charles Patterson.  She leaves to cherish her memories, her sons, Jeff Wallace, Sr. (Stephanie), of Upper Marlboro, MD, and James Wallace, of Wichita, KS; grandchildren, John Taylor (Megan), of Sumter, SC, Jeffery Wallace, Jr., of Fort Campbell, KY, Antonio Wallace, of Newport News, VA, Sadae Chapman, of Williamsburg, VA, Jacquelyn Wallace (Tyshauna), of Cleveland, OH, Jasmine Wallace, of Fort Jackson, SC, Joseph Wallace, of Augusta, GA and Stefon Wallace, of Upper Marlboro, MD; special God-children, Kevon Pressey, of Newport News, VA and Kierra Davis (Keshon), of Fort Drum. NY; twelve great-grandchildren, Izjohn, Za’Kayiah, Jayce, Masyn, Shane, Joshua, Enoch, Nash, Mia, Mason, Mya and Heaven; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A service, celebrating her life, will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, July 20, 2019, in Whiting’s Chapel.  Family and friends will assemble by 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.  Interment to follow in Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery.  Mrs. Wallace may be viewed on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
