On Thursday, January 9, 2020, God called home to eternal rest, our beloved Lucy Mae Bundy, in the Sentara Williamsburg Medical Regional Center, Williamsburg, Virginia. She was born on March 1, 1926, the second oldest daughter of the late Frank Bundy and Lena Moore Bundy, in Caroline County.
She was educated in Rexburg School, which was located on the grounds of First Union Baptist Church near the cemetery.
She married Floyd Bundy on March 18, 1949; unto this union, they were blessed with three children, one daughter and two sons.
In 1950, she joined First Union Baptist Church and remained a member until her demise. She loved her church, and worked in the kitchen for many years, along with working on various other church committees. When she relocated to the Williamsburg area with her husband, the family still attended church services.
Her first job was working for the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration in Washington, DC. Once she left that job, she began keeping neighborhood kids in her home. She loved them, as though they were her own children. In fact, some of them were still visiting her yearly.
Lucy loved cooking, baking and working in her flower beds. You could often see her outside with her cane or walker cleaning her flowerbeds.
She was predeceased in death by her son, Lamont Bundy; husband, Floyd Bundy Sr.; sisters, Virginia Burns, Irene Reynolds, Ida Bundy, Ruth Bundy, and Elnora Bundy; and brothers, William Bundy, Louis Bundy, and Clarence Bundy. She leaves to cherish her precious memories with her daughter, Brenda Williams, and son, Floyd Bundy Jr. (Edythe); grandchildren, Chante, Shanna, Swyaan and Sheldon; greatgrandchildren, MiShayla, Jeashean, Nya, Shayla Cameron, Little Sheldon; great-great-granddaughter, Melanie Rose; nieces, nephews; brother-in-law, Linburg Bundy; cousins and many caring friends.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, January 18, 2020, in First Union Baptist Church, Tappahannock. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends to assemble at the church by 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Bundy may be viewed from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday in Whiting's Chapel and on Saturday two hours prior to her service in the church.
