Marilyn Jones Obituary

Marilyn “Lollipop” Jones was peacefully called to rest on Monday, June 10, 2019, at MCV Hospital surrounded by her family and friends. She was the fifth of ten children born to Ruby Jones and the late Calvin Jones on March 8, 1958, in James City County.  She was nicknamed “Lollipop” by her parents and attended the New Kent County Public School System. She worked at Eastern State Hospital, Williamsburg, VA in the Food Service Department until her health began to fail.

At an early age, Lollipop confessed Christ as her personal Lord and Savior.  She was baptized and joined St. John Baptist Church, Toano, VA.  She continued her Christian journey by visiting Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Barhamsville, VA and Shiloh Baptist Church, Williamsburg, VA.  On February 14, 1973, Lollipop found the love of her life, George Piggott, Sr., with whom she was with for 46 years.  From this relationship, they were blessed with a loving, caring and devoted son, George Piggott, Jr.

Lollipop was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.  She definitely was a joy and inspiration to her family and friends; spending time with them whenever she could.  She was never shy about letting them or anyone know what she was thinking or how she felt. She would often say, “No Fools, No Fun”.

She leaves to cherish her beautiful memories with her lifetime friend and companion, George Piggott, Sr., her devoted and loving son, George Piggott, Jr. and Shawn Chapman, Sr.; her grandson, Shawn Chapman, Jr.; her special son, Purcell “My Baby PJ” Piggott; her mother, Ruby Jones, four brothers, Lorenzo Jones, Chicago, IL, Calvin Jones (Angela), Jasper, MN, Terence Jones, Barhamsville, VA, and Raymond Jones (Rebecca), Newport News, VA; five sisters, Beatrice Lightfoot, Lanexa, VA, Donna Jones, Barhamsville, VA, Audrey Lightfoot (Alton), Lanexa, VA; Christine Piggott (Morris), Barhamsville, VA, and Ruby Lee (John), Toano, VA; her aunt, Gladys Morris, Lanexa, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom she loved dearly.

A funeral service, celebrating her life, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 14, 2019, at Bethel Restoration Center. Family and friends will assemble at the church by 12:30 p.m. Ms. Jones may be viewed in the church on Friday beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the hour of her service.
