Myrtle Cheeseman Christian departed this life on Saturday, August 24, 2019, at her home, in Newport News, Virginia. She was born on March 22, 1940, to the late Windrew Cheeseman, Sr. and Hattie V. Cheeseman.
Myrtle grew up in the Colony and was a longtime resident of Newport News, Virginia. She attended Carver High School, Newport News, Virginia. She was a devoted member of New Beech Grove Baptist Church and retired from Fort Eustis after more than ten years of service.
Myrtle was the “giver” of the family and loved by many. Shopping, cooking and decorating for Christmas were her passions and delight. She treasured the times she spent with her grandsons, and will truly be missed by all who knew her and loved her. She will forever live in our hearts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore T. Christian; brother, Windrew Cheeseman, Jr., and sister, Geraldine Stepherson. She leaves to treasure her memories, her son, Michael Jones (Lena), of Newport News; grandsons, Rasheem Jones, of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, Jameel Jones, of Hampton, and Malik Jones, of Newport News; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 31, 2019, at New Beech Grove Baptist Church. Interment will be at a later date at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Family and friends to assemble by 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Mrs. Christian may be viewed from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2019, in the funeral home.
