Nelson Robert McNorton

Mr. Nelson Robert McNorton, 97, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, August 29, 2019, at Regional Memorial Hospital, Mechanicsville VA.  His life began on October 25, 1921, son of the late Dr. Nelson and Carrie McNorton, of Yorktown, Virginia.

He was educated in York County Public Schools.  He attended Virginia Union University in Richmond VA. At the age of 21, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving from 1942 to 1945 and from 1950 to 1952.    He achieved the rank of 2nd Lieutenant and was Platoon Sargent Battery C of 466th Artillery Battalion.  He was also in charge of platoon training for service in Korea.  After being honorably discharged from the Army, he worked for the United States Postal Service for over twenty years.  He was also employed with the Medical College of Virginia and Sinai Hospital in Maryland; retiring in 1983.

Mack, as he was affectionately known, had a feisty personality.  He loved jazz, the Dallas Cowboys, playing dominoes and telling jokes. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.  

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara M. McNorton.  His fond and precious memories will be forever cherished by his devoted adopted daughter, Lisa Lee (Fred); Rose Farrish (Frank); grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives, and friends. 

A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 23, 2019, at Forest Lawn Cemetery and Mausoleum, 4000 Pilots Lane, Richmond, VA 23222.  Family and friends to assemble by 12:30 p.m. at the cemetery.
