Robert D. White
“Dell”
April 2, 1971 - October 8, 2019
Robert Delton White was born on April 2, 1971, the son of the late Robert G. and Deloris A. White, of Matthews, Virginia. He peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, October 8, 2019, in his home.
After graduating from Mathews High School, Robert, affectionately known as “Dell” joined the United States Army and went on to serve and protect on multiple overseas tours. He spent twenty-four years setting the standard and serving as a mentor to those around him. He retired as Sergeant First Class in November of 2014.
While his military career made up a lot of who he was, Dell was defined by his family and friends. He married his wife Alaywa White on October 5, 1991, and together they celebrated twenty-eight years of love. Together they raised three children, Markus, Marquis, and Ariel White.
Dell will always be remembered for his comical personality, and being the life of the party. He was a jack-of-all-trades, always challenging and improving his own knowledge by learning new things. He was adventurous, and liked to travel and explore new places and to enjoy his favorite thing, food; he always had the biggest appetite in the room. Robert D. White was all of these things and more. He was a fun-loving and kind spirit to those who knew him. Today we honor him for always being the man that he was, a husband, father, brother, uncle, friend, and mentor. Dell's love and support from his family and friends were unmatched.
Dell is also survived by his brother, Michael White (Jean); aunt, Alice Smith; uncles, Winston Thomas and Jimmy White; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that became family.
A memorial service with full Military Honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 26, 2019, in Whiting's Chapel. Family and friends to assemble by 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
