Mr. William L. Ashby, 81, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 21, 2019, at Consulate Health Care of Norfolk. His life began on May 10, 1938, son of the late William Andrew and Mary Elizabeth Ashby, of Williamsburg, Virginia.
At an early age, William accepted Christ as his Personal Savior and joined Mount Gilead Baptist Church, Williamsburg, Virginia. William joined the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17; being stationed in Spain, Quantico, Virginia, and Jacksonville, North Carolina before receiving an honorable discharge from service at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina in 1958. He later retired from the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club of Colonial Williamsburg after forty years of dedicated service.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd Ashby, and sister, Lucy Owens. He leaves fond memories with his sister, Shirley McIntyre, of Newport News; brother, Steve Ashby (Carolyn), of Williamsburg; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and close friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 30, 2019, in Whiting’s Chapel with Dr. Robert A. Whitehead Sr. officiating. A private interment will take place at a later date. Family and friends to assemble at the funeral home by 12:30 p.m. on Friday. Mr. Ashby may be viewed on Friday beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the hour of his service in the funeral home.
