Adline Warren Obituary

Deaconess Adline Moore Warren, Age 82, of Newport News, VA, peacefully transitioned into eternal rest in the arms of her Heavenly Father on July 15, 2026, in her home in Newport News, VA.

Born on April 29, 1944, in Conway, SC, she was the fifth of seven daughters of Henry and Izetta Moore. Adline graduated from Claflin College with a bachelor’s in elementary education and went on to have a career as a teacher and settled in Newport News, Virginia. There, Adline met Wilbert E. Warren. They were married in Newport News on October 27, 1973. They had three children together: Matthew, Mark, and Adrienne.

Adline Moore Warren will be remembered for kindness, willingness to help others, and dedication to God and the church. As the 1st Lady of Shiloh Baptist Church in Croaker, VA, Adline left an indelible print on the lives of its members and the operations of the church as a function of the body of Christ. Deaconess Warren served as a faithful altar attendant, Christian educator, choir member, and a valuable team member of the hospitality committee. She was the catalyst for many events and programs that would further develop and grow the church and the surrounding community. Upon leaving Shiloh Baptist Church, after her husband, Pastor Wilbert E. Warren, retired, she united with The Centurion Interdenominational Church at Fort Monroe in Hampton, Virginia. There, she continued all of the service she was formerly devoted to as a choir member and member of the hospitality team.

In her day-to-day life, she was a skilled cook as well as a master bakery artist when it came to cakes, pies, cookies, fruitcakes, and more. In addition to her cooking, she was an artisan when it came to sewing and quilting. She also enjoyed gardening, singing, and playing music for the Lord. She was a devoted Christian woman, wife, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all.

Adline is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Izetta Moore, and her sisters, Maxine Sconiers, Rochelle Moore, Wyonne Wilson, and Mildred Moore.

She is survived by her husband, Rev. Wilbert E. Warren; her children, Matthew Warren, Mark Warren (spouse Marcy Warren), and Adrienne Warren-Rylander; three granddaughters, Ariel Smith (spouse Steven Smith), Madalynn Warren, and Anna Warren; grandson Jeremiah Warren; great-grandson Samuel Smith; her sisters, Dorothea Simmons (Jordan Simmons III) and Betsy Moore; brother-in-law Robert Wilson; and a host of nieces, nephews, beloved friends and neighbors, and brothers and sisters in Christ.

As Adline Warren touched the lives of many, she will forever be in our hearts as a one-of-a-kind gift to us all.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at Noon on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at New Zion Baptist Church, with a viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m.  Interment will be at a later date at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk.
