On Wednesday, May 13, 2020, our beloved Alma Hill Johnson, while surrounded by family, transitioned to her heavenly home to be with the Lord. Her life began on March 14, 1933, daughter of the late Bettie and Henry Hill.
Since the age of three, Alma attended the Historic First Baptist Church. When she was able to, she joined the church and sang with the choir. She was a faithful member until her health prevented her from attending services.
Alma was educated in the Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools; attending Bruton Heights School. She went on to work for the College of William & Mary where she enjoyed serving the students and faculty. She later worked for and retired from the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation as a Pantry Helper at the Williamsburg Inn.
Alma was a loving wife, mother & grandmother. She had a heart of gold and always wore a pleasant smile on her face. She treated her children’s friends as though they were her own. Alma was well-loved. If you ever met her you would never forget her. We will miss her deeply but find comfort in knowing that she now is resting in the arms of Jesus.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Johnson, son, James Fredrick Johnson Sr., three brothers, Henry Hill, James “Red” Hill, and Vange Hill.
She leaves to cherish her blessed memories, daughters, Sheron J. Jones (Jeff) and caregiver, Sabrina Johnson Garner (Anthony); son, John Johnson (Teresa); granddaughters, Jovon Jones-Whitby (Russell) and Jeniqua Johnson; grandsons, James F. Johnson Jr., Rodney Johnson, Tarrald Wynne, Gregory Johnson (Theresa), Alonzo Johnson (Sindija) and William L. Jones III; thirteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two great-godchildren, Johnisha Gray and Josiah Gray; special friend, Giresha Gray; a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and friends.
