On Sunday, October 6, 2019, at 10:46 a.m. Anthony Charles Ashby, better known as “Dey” or “Uncle Shed”, peacefully entered into eternal rest, in his home surrounded by family. Anthony was born on December 29, 1962, in Williamsburg, Virginia, to the late Annette Elizabeth Turner Ashby White and Albert Jerome Ashby, Sr.
At an early age, Anthony became a member of Union Baptist Church and attended Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools. He enjoyed the outdoors and raising his loving daughter and grandchildren. He was employed as a Landscaper with Powhatan Plantation for over thirty years and was known for his big heart and contagious smile.
In 2017, Anthony’s health begin to decline. Through numerous treatments and surgeries, he remained strong and fought a good battle to the end.
Anthony is preceded in death by his brother, Albert “Duna Ashby. He leaves behind to cherish his memories his beloved daughter, Natasha M. Ashby; grandchildren, Aiyanna Long, and Anthony Goines Jr.; loving ex-wife, Joyce Ashby (caregiver); sisters, Ava Haizlip (caregiver), Althea Duncan, and Abby Brown; brothers, Antoine, and Alex Ashby; uncles, Willie Turner Sr. (Barbara), of Philadelphia, PA., and Carl E. Ashby, of Williamsburg; aunt, Phyllis Jones, of Williamsburg, VA; devoted friend, Curtis Blunt; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many caring friends.
A service of remembrance will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 12, 2019, in Union Baptist Church with Pastor Johnny Wallace officiating. Family and friends to assemble by 12:30 p.m. at the church. Mr. Ashby may be viewed on Saturday in the church beginning at 11:00 a.m.
