Arnold Van Gyant, a beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend, was born on May 20, 1965, to the late Marvin and Margaret Gyant in Durham, North Carolina. He entered eternal rest on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at home. He was sixty years old.
He was educated in the Hampton City Schools, graduating from Kecoughtan High School in the Class of 1983. He later started a successful career with the United States Army, serving ten years Active Duty and another twenty years as an Army Reservist until his retirement on August 20, 2024.
Arnold was a talented artist who showcased his skills as a caricature artist at Kaman’s Art Shoppes in Busch Gardens, Williamsburg, Virginia, for 9 years. At the time of his passing, he was employed as a warehouse worker for Walmart, Inc.
Arnold leaves to cherish fond memories, his wife of twenty-seven years, Dametria Jarvis-Gyant; siblings, Marvin Gyant Jr., Cheryl Gyant, Kathery Jones, Terence Gyant (Demetrius), and Steven Gyant; nephew Terence Goard; niece Chelsea Goard; sister-in-law Berry Jarvis-Hoskins (Larry); brothers-in-law, Jerry Jarvis (Debra) and Foster Jarvis; other nieces, Nikole Jarvis-Potter (Eve-lyn), Lynnette Fogg (Eric), Deborah Gatling, Journey Potter, and Evyette Potter; other nephews, Darryl Jarvis, Ezra M. Fogg, and Eve-lyn M. Potter III; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral service with Full Military Honors will be held at Noon on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Whiting's Funeral Home. Mr. Gyant may be viewed from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home. Interment will take place at a later date in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
