On Tuesday, July 25, 2023, Barbara Diane Meekins Piggott put on her heavenly wings and ascended home to be with the Lord. Her life began on December 1, 1950, the beautiful daughter of the late Helen Mildredth Meekins and Robert “Calvin” Meekins.
At an early age, Barbara accepted Christ as her personal Savior. She served the Lord and fellowshipped at her family’s home churches, Cedar Grove in Charles City, St Luke in Plum Point, and Zion Baptist Church, Lightfoot. Barbara graduated from James Blair High School. She continued her education and started working in data processing and medical records for various medical facilities, Eastern State Hospital, and the College of William & Mary. She married Michael J. Holmes Sr. This union was blessed with two children, Chanelle Holmes Robinson and Michael J Holmes Jr. Her children were the love of her heart.
Barbara was loving and caring; she loved her children, family, and friends. She enjoyed listening to music and singing. She also played the piano and other instruments. She loved to teach her children how to cook and grow plants. She also enjoyed reading Steven King books, making jewelry, needlepoint, training animals, and watching the Dallas Cowboys. She was a tomboy and loved to hang out with her uncles.
On July 6, 2004, she joined in holy matrimony with Edward “Red” Piggott. When her health began to fail, he became her devoted caregiver until God called her home.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Robert Meekins; grandparents, Nelle and Reverend Milton Christian (big momma and big daddy); great grandparents, Mary and Charlie Jones; sister, Sandra “Sally” Armstead; brothers, Lloyd T. Melvin Jr and Alfred Melvin; uncle, Edmond "Bill" Christian; and stepdaughter, Michelle Piggott.
Barbara leaves her precious memories with her husband, Edward Pigott; daughter, Chanelle Holmes Robinson; son, Michael J Holmes Jr; grandchildren, Aleyiah Lyons, Austin Richardson, and Dana Piggott; great-grandchildren, Aubree Sims, Christian Sims, and Ariah Sims; siblings, Lawrence Jones (Tomika), Jeffrey Meekins, Anthony Meekins, and Floyd Melvin (Darlene); uncle, Leon Christian (Christine); stepmother, Maggie T Meekins; sister-in-law, Rosemary Allen; brother-in-law, George Piggott (Amy); nephews, Ronald Lee Armstead and Richard Armstead; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
