Barbara Mae Randall was born on August 30, 1957, to Eddie Lee and Irene Randall. Her earthly journey turned into Heaven’s reward on Saturday, November 13, 2021.
At an early age, she joined Mount Nebo Baptist Church. Barbara attended the New Kent County Public School System and was employed by the Newport News Redevelopment & Housing Authority for many years. She was also an assistant florist with Hawkins Florist.
She was united in marriage to John Safewright.
Barbara was a funny and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Her children were the greatest loves of her life. She loved them with all of her heart. Barbara also enjoyed special time with her grandchildren as well. She enjoyed reminiscing about the old days. While in the WaterView Health & Rehab Center Barbara held special bonds with many of the nurses and other staff members.
Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Eddie Lee Randall, and grandson, Tremayne Safewright.
Barbara’s memories will forever remain with her children, Lavita, Marcel, Mark, and Latia; longtime companion and soulmate, Dewitt Rainey; mother, Irene V. Randall; siblings, Dr. Morris Randall (Dr. Helen), Kay Randall, and Gale Wilson; grandchildren, Ji Ree Burrell, Laniya Randall, Mark Harris Jr., LaRiyah Fells, Peyton Hatchett, and Mikel Harris; great-grandchildren, Korion Safewright, JaLiyah Burrell, and Aubriella Burrell; nieces and nephews, Morris Randall Jr., Maurice Randall, LaShandell Randall, Sonya Lee, and Martel Washington; One sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law; four aunts and three uncles; great aunt, Flora B. Randall; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
A funeral service to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 20, 2021, in Whiting’s Funeral Home. Live Stream will be available at the beginning of the service. Interment to follow in Mt. Nebo Baptist Church. Mrs. Safewright may be viewed from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
