Benjamin “Benjie” H. Hundley IV, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, July 22, 2023, in his Virginia Beach home. His life journey began on January 10, 1970, the oldest of two sons born to Benjamin Hundley III and the late Gertrude J. Hundley.
At an early age, he joined Triumphant Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia, where he served on the Junior Usher Board. He and his brother Tamar would often travel with their father as he traveled to many churches singing with the Triumphant Baptist Gospel Chorus.
He graduated from Monacan High School with honors as the top French Student. He was inducted into RAPME (Richmond Area Program for Minorities in Engineering) and served as an engineering intern at Reynold’s Metal. He attended the University of Virginia and transferred to North Carolina A&T. He graduated from the Mechanical Engineering School at Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia.
For the past nineteen years, he worked as an Engineer/Planner at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was loved by his co-workers for his calm, kind, and loving personality. He was especially dedicated to his younger brother, whom he loved dearly. It was always Benji and Tamar; when you saw one, the other was close by. He always made the people he talked to feel like they were the most important people on earth.
Benji’s’ health issues left him completely blind, but later, with God’s help, he gained sight in one eye. His brother, Tamar, drove him to work until he learned how to drive with that one eye. His co-workers trusted him so much that when the van did not run, they would let Benjie drive them to work. He will be missed by family, co-workers, and dedicated friends.
He is survived by his father, Benjamin Hundley III (Marie); devoted brother, Tamar J. Hundley; great-uncles, Wallace Hurte (Helen), Stewart Hurte (Eva), and Gilbert Hurte (Edith); great-aunts, Aleaze Robertson and Jane Harris (Raleigh); special friends, Mark and Lisa Guildford; and a host of cousins, relatives, and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 5, 2023, at the Historic First Baptist Church. Livestream will be available at the beginning of the service. Interment to follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park. Mr. Hundley may be viewed on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of his service in the church.
