Bennie Jones Obituary

Bennie Randolph Jones began his earthly journey on November 13, 1933. He was the oldest of three children born to the late Laura W. and George Jones. 

Bennie grew up in Southampton County and graduated from LP Jackson High.  In 1954, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country as a Field Medic for two years. Upon being honorably discharged and returning to civilian life, Bennie met and married Emily Ellis of Surry, VA. This union celebrated sixty-one years of love on June 23, 2021. Also at that time, he began a thirteen-year career with The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation as a cook at The Williamsburg Inn. In November of 1971, he made a career move to work with the United States Government at Camp Peary.  He remained there until his retirement in 1996. Bennie enjoyed twenty-five great years of retirement.

He is also preceded in death by his brother, Bruce N. Jones, and sister-in-law, Gwen Jones. Bennie, (known as Pawpaw), will be missed and cherished by his one and only “Emily”; his sons, Reggie (Shannon) and Jason (Ayanna); daughter, Sharon; brother, Thomas; grandchildren, Christian, Charity, Kayla, Daniel, and Celina; great-granddaughter, Charlotte-Marie; nieces, Monica (Derek) and Annette (Mark); nephew, Brayell (Marisha); great-niece, Ciara; sisters-in-law, Vivian and Beatrice (Edward); brother-in-law, Percell; A special friend, Rev. Joseph H. Goode; “Adopted Children”, Frank and Madeline Broadwater, Bobby Pressley, Sherri Combs, Rodney Harrell, Emerson Floyd Martin, Kevin, and Dwayne Parker, Roderick Edmunds, and Tracey Lankford; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mr. Jones may be viewed on Monday, July 19, 2021, beginning at 9:00 a.m. with a funeral service starting at 10:00 a.m., at Whiting's Funeral Home.  Interment with military honors to follow in Booker T. Memorial Park, Wakefield.
