On Monday, January 3, 2022, our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, cousin, and friend, Bessie Brown, took the Master’s hand and went to be with her Heavenly Father. She was born on December 10, 1942, to the late Edgar Garnett and Pauline Taylor Williams.
At an early age, she accepted Christ and joined Zion Baptist Church. She was a devoted member and served as a Pastor’s Aide, and sang with the Senior Choir, the L.F. Williams Gospel Choir, the Sanctuary Choir, and the Gospel Choir. She also helped organize the Sunbeam/Sunday School Choir.
She attended the Williamsburg-James City County public schools.
She met and married the late Milton Alpheus Jones and unto this union, Kimberly Michelle Jones Braxton and the late Troy Alpheus Jones were born. She later married the late Robert Lee Tyler and unto this union, Robert Jermaine Tyler was born. She later married the late Pernell Nelson Brown.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories her daughter and caregiver, Kimberly Braxton of Williamsburg; son, Robert Tyler of Williamsburg; stepdaughters, Vernell Scott (James) and Lucinda Brown, both of Williamsburg; stepson, Paul Brown of Williamsburg; eighteen grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Isaiah Williams of Williamsburg and Lawrence Williams (Vera) of Baltimore, MD; four sisters, Paulette Gary of Newport News, Brenda Williams, Inetia Custalow (Clyde), and Felicia Taswell (Bruce), all of Williamsburg; aunt, Mildred Taylor; uncle, Rev. Issac Parker; sister-in-law, Carolyn Shird; very devoted friend/sister, Lois Hatfield; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 10, 2022, at Zion Baptist Church. Livestream will be available at the beginning of the service. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Brown may be viewed on Monday in the church beginning at 11:00 a.m.
