Bryan Stephen McDowell

Bryan Stephen McDowell was born on July 11, 1962, to the union of Francisco and Delphis Mc Dowell, in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Bryan moved to Williamsburg, Virginia with his parents in 1971. 

He attended York County Public Schools, graduating from Bruton High School where he participated in several sports activities to include varsity football and basketball.

Bryan worked at a few hotels and restaurants in Williamsburg before health issues prevented him from doing so.

Bryan was raised in apostolic churches including the United Pentecostal Church in Jamaica, the Apostolic Church in Williamsburg and he attended The Peninsula Pentecostals Church in Newport News with his parents.  He received the Holy Ghost during a memorable family vacation to Jamaica in 1982.

Bryan was a very friendly, social, and bubbly individual.  He endured several health challenges over the past eighteen years but he did not allow them to dampen his spirit or cause him to lose his zest for life.  He was not one to complain but faced his challenges in stride.  Bryan was a “Mama’s boy” and was proud to show it.  We thank God that we got a chance to enjoy his kind, friendly, mouthy, and vivacious life.  He was a lovely individual.

He was predeceased by his brother, Easton. Bryan leaves to cherish precious memories with his parents; sisters, Annette Grier, Ovril McDowell, Marlene Kirkpatrick (John), and Donna McDowell; nieces and nephews, Erika and Alexis Kirkpatrick, DiAndre Grier, and Jada and Israel McDowell; aunts, cousins, and many friends including Morris Taylor and Melanie Holmes.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at Whiting’s Funeral Home.  Due to the current health pandemic, only 50 people may be in attendance with facial coverings and social distancing requirements.  Facebook Livestream will be available at the beginning of this service.  Mr. McDowell may be viewed on Tuesday beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the hour of his service.
