On Monday, December 23, 2024, Calvin Eugene Griffis was suddenly called home to glory. He was born on September 24, 1965, to Zilla Griffis.
Calvin was a lifelong resident of Newport News. He was educated in the Newport News Public School system and graduated from Denbigh High School. He was employed as a roofer until his health prevented him from working.
Calvin was a die-hard fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers football team. He loved the song “Take Me To The King” by Tamela Mann, and his favorite scripture was John 3:16.
He was the protector of his family and friends, who were his greatest loves. Calvin would do anything for anybody and would give the shirt off of his back to anyone in need. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Calvin is preceded in death by his mother; sisters, Regina Martin, Clareitha Griffis, and April Griffis; and brother Elvis Martin.
He leaves cherished memories with his son Dominic D’Amico; bonus sons, George Sheppard and Aaron Harris; bonus daughters, Marketta Harris and Nikiya Sheppard; devoted sister Vanessa Graves (Thomas); brothers, Albert Griffis (Angela), Terry Griffis, and Elmer Griffis; aunt Marie Dammons; loving and devoted friend Sharon Harris; best friends, Johnathan Edwards and Michael Collins; nieces, Minister Tanisha Tyler-Graves (Bobby), Vanessa Tyler Crew (Dennis), Leticia Griffis, Ashante Griffis, Cierra Pleasant, Noelle McClarin, Serena Griffis, and Apryl Griffis; nephews, Carlos Martin, Laroy Griffis, Charles Griffis, Elmer Griffis III, De Angelo Griffis, Trey Griffis, and Terry Griffis, Jr.; beloved bonus grandchildren, Deonna Harris and Adonis Harris; special cousin James Wynn (Donna); and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
