Catherine Moore Obituary

“You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.” Luke 12:40

Catherine Edmonia Moore answered the Master’s call in the early morning hour on January 25, 2024, at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center, Williamsburg, Virginia. Catherine was born on December 9, 1935, to the late Littleton, Sr., and Alma Luvinia Wallace. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Ruth Cosby, Frances Wallace, and Dora Paige; and brother Littleton Wallace Jr.

At an early age, Catherine affectionately known as “Kitty” or “Moanie,” became a member of Mount Gilead Baptist Church in Grove, Virginia. After graduating from Bruton Heights School in 1954, Catherine attended Virginia State College (now Virginia State University) in Petersburg.

On August 27, 1958, She married the love of her life, Sergeant Benjamin Joseph Moore Jr.  This union was blessed with two loving sons, Joseph and Duane. Catherine and Ben traveled extensively throughout the United States and abroad during Ben’s Air Force career.

Catherine retired from the Prince George’s County Public School system in Maryland; an avid reader, she tutored children regularly in reading throughout the school year.  She was a member of First Baptist Church, Landover, and a member of the Lucy Watt Choir.

In 1994, she and Ben relocated to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and they continued to travel on cruises enjoying timeshares with family and friends. While in Florida, Catherine joined First Missionary Baptist Church, Jacksonville Beach, and became an active member in both the choir and the Pastoral Aid Ministry.

In 2011, Catherine and Ben returned to their hometown, Williamsburg, Virginia, to be closer to family. They joined hands in fellowship with Union Baptist Church, Williamsburg. Catherine joined the Adult Choir and participated in bible study until her husband’s health began to decline.  She continued as an active member of both the Pastoral Care and Missionary Ministry.

Catherine was a devoted wife and a loving mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, and friend. She was an avid golf and tennis fan and enjoyed watching her favorite football team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.  She touched the lives and hearts of all she met or encountered through her humor and love of people. Her laughter and spirit will be forever remembered by all of her family and friends.
