Cathy Francine Jones

On Monday, December 6, 2021, Cathy Francine Jones was called to her heavenly home.  Born on May 12, 1955, the first of four children to the former Julia Ann Palmer and the late Floyd Oliver Jones, Sr.  Her father affectionately called her, Catta Boo.

Cathy was educated in the Williamsburg–James City County Public School System; a proud graduate of Lafayette High School’s Class of 1974. At an early age, she was baptized and joined Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church. Cathy was active in the original Pilgrimaire’s choir and was a member of the Junior Usher Board. Throughout the years, Cathy was employed at the Williamsburg Pottery, The College of William and Mary, and Town and Country Laundromat.

Cathy was very social throughout the Williamsburg community.  She never met a stranger and would not hesitate to strike up a conversation. Cathy kept up with the latest buzz around town and could be spotted at community gatherings. As her health started to decline, Cathy maintained many friendships with frequent phone calls.

Cathy will be greeted warmly by her predeceased loved ones: her father, Floyd Oliver Jones, Sr.; maternal grandparents, Margaret Barlow Palmer and Lieutenant Palmer, Sr.; paternal grandparents, Gladys Druitt Jones and John Lee Jones; two aunts, Queenie Evans and Myrtle Lee Jones; and an uncle, Milton Jones.

Left behind to fondly cherish Cathy’s memories are her mother, Julia Ann Jones; two brothers, Floyd Jones, Jr. and Terry Jones; sister, Sandra “Sandy” Jones Howard; niece, Jenise Howard; nephew, Andre Howard (Gisel); great-niece, Amaya Howard; two aunts, Dorothy “Dot” Harrold and Brenda Smith; an uncle, Lieutenant Palmer, Jr. (Marion); three great-aunts, Maud Barlow, Camellia Druitt, and Irma Druitt; great uncle, Robert “Darnell” Palmer (Novella); and a large extended family. Cathy befriended many people who became like family; a special friend, Joyce “Juicy” Wynne; and two bonus nephews; Peter Baxter and Marshall Popkin.

Cathy’s warm spirit and laughter will be greatly missed by family and friends alike.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, December 10, 2021, in Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church Cemetery, with Dr. Morris L. Randall officiating.  Live stream will be available at the beginning of the service.  Ms. Jones may be viewed from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday with a time of reflections beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home.  Facial coverings are required at all services.
