Charles Edward Brooks Sr. received his eternal wings on Tuesday, November 17, 2020. His life began on August 16, 1940, son of the late Overseer Moses J. Brooks and Novella Brooks. He was also raised by his stepmother Aretha D. Brooks from his teen years to adulthood.
Charles accepted the Lord as his Savior later in his life. Affectionately known as “Chef Charles Brooks” and “G Pa”, he retired from the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation as a chef. He also set up many Howard Johnson’s Restaurants across the state of Virginia.
He loved his family, people, and football. He also loved to sing in the Quartet. He will forever be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves to cherish his wonderful memories, his wife, Julia Palmer Brooks; children, Angela Brooks, Charles Brooks Jr., and Joseph Brooks; grandchildren, Roshaun, LaTrika, LaTonya and Casandra Brooks; many great-grandchildren; sister, Cynthia Brooks Robinson (James); brothers, Joseph Samuel Brooks (Shirley) and Stephen Andre Brooks; and a host of nieces; nephews, other loving relatives, and many caring friends.
A drive-up funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2020, in Whiting’s Funeral Home Parking Lot. Due to the current health pandemic, all attendees must remain in their vehicles. Facebook Livestream will be available for this service. Interment to follow in St. Luke Baptist Church Cemetery, Plum Point. A walk-through viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Monday, November 23, 2020, in the funeral home.
