Charles Delaney Obituary

Charles Edward Delaney, 71, was peacefully called home on April 17, 2021, after a lengthy illness.  On October 27, 1949, he was born to the late Frank and Mary Virginia Delaney in Williamsburg, VA.

Charles, affectionally known as “Jack” and “Coach Delaney,” received his education in the Williamsburg-James City County public schools. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from North Carolina A&T State University in 1972.  Shortly after, Charles began his teaching career at Berkley Middle School and taught throughout his hometown school system.  His passion for learning would lead him to continue his studies at William & Mary, where he received his Master of Education degree.  Charles’ educational accomplishments and teaching experience would later take him to international classrooms in Aschaffenburg, Germany, where he taught for several years.  After returning from Germany, Charles worked at the Army Management Staff College for many years as an Instructional Systems Specialist, where he later retired.

Charles knew his Savior; he joined Chickahominy Baptist Church at an early age and faithfully served.  He is preceded in death by his siblings, Jean Delaney Wallace, Leroy Delaney, Ronald Delaney, Debora Delaney, and George Delaney.

Charles is survived by his devoted life companion, Regina Riddick; siblings, Mary Smallwood, Frank Delaney Jr. (Alice), John Delaney, Louise Smith, Deloristeen Delaney, Gerald Delaney, Cathy Delaney, and Michael Delaney (Lynn); and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Sentara Williamsburg Hospital, Riverside Doctor’s Hospital, and the Hospice House in Williamsburg.   In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to his alma mater, William & Mary, or the Hospice House of Williamsburg.

A private viewing will be held at the request of the family.
