Charles Wyatt Obituary

Heavenly Father we thank you for blessing us with the presence of a loving, kind, intelligent, giving, and most of all a proud family man, Charles Edward Wyatt. “Papa”, as he was affectionately called, left this earth on Sunday, November 15, 2020.

Charles was born on November 5, 1948, in Arkansas, son of the late Adell and John Wyatt Sr. He was the fourth oldest of nine children. his brother, John Wyatt Jr, preceded him in death.

On September 21, 1972, he was united in holy matrimony to Bettye J. Wyatt, and This union was blessed with six children.

Charles graduated from the Osceola Rosenwald School.  He began his career as a Machine Operator at American Greetings Corporation for twenty-five years. He also served as an Auxiliary Officer with the Osceola Police Department.  In 1991, Charles moved to Newport News, VA. There, he was employed as a supervisor at Sherwood Packaging Company; retiring in 2005.

Early in his life, Charles became a deacon of the Masonic Organization; later becoming a Third-Degree Master Mason.  He also volunteered as a Cub Scout leader during his years in Osceola. After moving to Virginia, he joined New Bethel Cathedral COGIC in Hampton, VA under the leadership of Bishop Melvin Austin.

Charles was loved by many. He was known to be a strong, positive, and very quiet man, but yet a thinker. His favorite game show was Jeopardy….which, he was good at it. He saw the good in everyone and would do anything to help others. Prior to retiring, Charles suffered through a horrific accident that left him disadvantaged, but he still remained positive. He would always say, “I’m alright.” His last words in the hospital were, “I feel pretty good now, I’m ready to go home.”

Charles was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kaylyn Baskett, and brother John Wyatt Jr.  He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of forty-eight years, Bettye Wyatt; four daughters, Alesia Fondren (Trophimus Sr.) of Cary, NC, Bridgett Wyatt and Ericka Baskett, both of Williamsburg, VA, and Daphne LaFond (Ronald) of Eastern, PA; two sons, Craig Veasley of Williamsburg, VA and Chauncey Wyatt of Las Vegas, NV; seven grandchildren, Alexis, Trophimus Jr., Kennedi, Craig Jr., Kaleb and Kenzie; a great-grandchild; five sisters, Lola Douglas (Charles) of Osceola, Ar., Margaret Liddell (Lanier) of Maricopa, AZ, Johnnie Rieves (Robert) and Cathy Watson (Herbert Jr), both of Chicago, Il, and Marlene Robinson (Willie) of Little Rock, AR; three brothers, Malcolm Wyatt (Michele) of Wheaton, Il, Alvin Wyatt of Chicago, Il, and Anthony Wyatt (Anita) of Willowbrook, Il; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
