Charles "TonyMo" Moore Jr. Obituary

Charles R. Moore Jr., "TonyMo," 80, of Williamsburg, Virginia, passed away at his residence on Monday, September 20, 2021. "TonyMo," as he liked to be called, was born December 30, 1940, in White Plains, New York, to Charles and Evangeline Parker Moore.

At a young age, Tony was baptized and became a member of Union Baptist Church, Williamsburg. He graduated from Bruton Heights School in 1959. On February 15, 1970, he married the love of his life, the former Janet Jones from Charles City.

Upon completing two years in the US Army, he returned to Williamsburg and began working in Crump's Barber Shop, where he worked for ten years. He decided to open his own shop under the name of "Tony's Topper," a full-service salon for men, women, and children, retiring after 52 years of service in the Community.

Tony has served as President of the Community Men's Fellowship, former President and Executive Liaison Officer of the Williamsburg Men's Club, and worked with the Boy Scouts. He served for several years as President of the Bruton Heights Alumni Association and was instrumental in bringing the BHS and the James City County Alumni Association together as one. Tony cherished his high school class of 1959, and nothing could take their place. Tony's hobbies were football, jazz (played the saxophone), cooking, and enjoying life. Tony and his late wife Janet were instrumental in organizing and planning many trips during the summer for the kids in the Community. On any given day, his genuine love for children would lead him to mentor at home, the barbershop, and in the Community.

Tony is survived by his son, Ronald J. Moore Sr.; daughter, Bridgette Walker (Sherrod); several grandchildren, Sherrelle, Ronald Jr., Roneisha (Ashley), Sherrod Jr., and Kevin; six great-grandchildren, Shaniya, Summer, ZaNiya, Jonotey, Zahra, and Oaklyn; a great-great-granddaughter and special grandson; brother-in-law, Donald Jones (Lunette), two brothers, Donald P. Moore and Larry J. Moore, both of Williamsburg, VA; sister, Dianne Moore Gilbert of Newport News, VA; niece Lisa; nephews, Tony, Horatio, and Chad; and a host of other relatives and friends.

We would like to give special thanks to Tony's doctors, caregivers, and special friends, Bennie, Bunny, and his breakfast buddies.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at Noon, Monday, September 27, 2021, at Whiting's Funeral Home. Livestream will be available at the beginning of the service.  Mr. Moore may be viewed on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. in the funeral home.  Facial coverings are required at all services.
