On June 16, 1948, our dear mother, Christine Joan Banks life began as the daughter of Eliza and Saxton Ashlock. God's garden was blessed with a precious rose on Wednesday, May 4, 2022.
She confessed her faith in God at an early age and joined St. John Baptist Church. Christine attended James Welden Johnson and worked as a custodian at the Yorktown Naval Weapon Station and the College of William and Mary until her health declined.
Christine truly devoted herself to the welfare and care of her family. She loved her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards, crossword puzzles, and shopping at yard sales/bargain stores. She touched the hearts of everyone she came in contact with and will always be remembered for the time, laughter, and fun she shared with family and friends.
Christine is predeceased by her husband, Clifford Banks; parents, Eliza and Saxton Ashlock; grandson, Jeremiah Banks; brother, Russell Ashlock; sister, Sylvia Johnson; mother-in-law, Alberta Banks; sisters-in-law, Diane Banks, Sharon Hudson, and Sheila Banks; brothers-in-law, Bobbit "Bobby" Jones, Rodney Banks, Michael Banks, and Fred Banks.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories to her sons, Timothy Banks and Tony Banks; daughters, Amy Banks and Peggy Harris; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren; sisters, Viola Johnson (Charles) and Celestine Jones; brothers, Saxton Ashlock (Joyce), Ozell Graham, and Anthony Graham; sisters-in-law, Francine Banks (Anthony) and Louise Pharr (Robert); brother-in-law, Thomas Banks; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and many caring friends.
At 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2022, a funeral service will be held at Whiting's Funeral Home. Livestream will be available at the beginning of the service. Interment to follow in St. John Baptist Church Cemetery, Williamsburg. Mrs. Banks may be viewed from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Facial coverings are required for all services.
