On Sunday, October 24, 2021, our beloved husband and father, Clarence Alexander Callahan, entered the gates of heaven, in Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center, Williamsburg, VA. He was born on May 4, 1948, to Sylvester and Florida Byrd Callahan, in Ponchatoula, LA.
After graduating from Greenville Park High School, Clarence attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. After college, he decided to join the United States Air Force. Clarence retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1993, after twenty-one years of dedicated service.
Following his service from the Air Force, Clarence worked for the California Department of Corrections in Sacramento, CA as a correctional officer for twenty years. After retiring, he moved to Williamsburg, VA.
Upon moving to Virginia, he and his wife joined Bethel Restoration Center Church. Clarence enjoyed working in the church. Outreach was one of his favorite ministries because he liked going out in the community witnessing and telling people about Jesus. During his leisure time, he enjoyed the outdoors. He loved to go fishing, hiking, cycling, traveling, and photography. Clarence was a strong, kind, loving, and supportive man and will be dearly missed and always remembered.
Clarence was preceded in death by his father, Sylvester Callahan; mother, Florida (Byrd) Callahan; and two brothers, Archie Callahan and Richard Callahan. He is survived by his wife Sandra Callahan; four children: daughter, Nicole Roberts (Da’ Mon) of Elk Grove, CA, son, Marcus Callahan of Williamsburg, VA, and daughters, Kristen Callahan and Tiffany Callahan, both of Newport News, VA; two grandsons; two sisters, Shirley Burton of Ponchatoula LA and Lola Ricks of Hammond, LA; brother, Rafheard Callahan of Ponchatoula, LA; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 15, 2021, at Bethel Restoration Center, with full military honors being rendered. Mr. Callahan may be viewed in the church on Monday beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the hour of his service. Facial coverings are required for all services.
