Clarstine E. Richard was called to eternal rest on Sunday, August 30, 2020, at her home in Williamsburg, Virginia. Her life began on November 2, 1935, daughter of the late William A. and Josephine Ellis of Surry, Virginia.
At an early age, she accepted Christ into her life and was baptized at Jerusalem Baptist Church, Surry, Virginia. She later joined First Baptist Church of Williamsburg, where she remained a member for over sixty years.
Clarstine graduated with the Class of 1954 from Luther P. Jackson High School. She continued her education at the Peninsula Business College, where she was crowned Ms. Peninsula Business College of 1962.
She met and married the late Joshua J. Richard in 1954. They remained happily married until his passing on August 30, 2010.
She was employed with the National Bank of Williamsburg from 1976 until its merger with Southern Bank in 1984. She then worked at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation; retiring in 2009. After retirement, she worked for Morningside Retirement Community until 2012.
She leaves fond and beautiful memories with her son, Ryan Richard (Carrol); four grandchildren, Christopher Pennington, Gené Robinson, Danielle Richard, and Miya Richard; great-grandchild, C.J. Robinson; four sisters, Geraldine Jackson, Cora Fields, Mildred Jones, and Queen Parker; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would also like to extend a special thank you to the extensive care given by Gina Rhodes, Lorelei Mohoff, Misty Stevens, and Jenny Long.
A funeral service will be held at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, September 3, 2020, at Whiting’s Chapel. Due to the current health pandemic, only 50 people may be in attendance. Face coverings and social distancing will be required. Facebook Livestream will be available for this service. Interment will be private. Mrs. Richard may be viewed from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2020, in the funeral home.
