Clinton Lowell Braxton was called to eternal Heavenly rest on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, in Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center. He was born on June 30, 1944, to the late Melvin Southey Braxton and Anna Odell Walker Braxton in James City County, Virginia.
He graduated from Bruton Heights High School in 1963. He was a member of the Marching Band playing the tuba.
At an early age, he was baptized and became a member at Shiloh Baptist Church-Croaker, Williamsburg, VA. He served as a Trustee of the Church for over thirty years and was a substitute drummer.
“Lowell,” as he was affectionally called by his family, friends and co-workers, began working at the Williamsburg Pottery at the age of twelve. He worked at the Pottery as a Ceramic Manufacturer, working on the Potter’s Wheel, for over forty-five years. He also was an entrepreneur and operated, “Lowell Braxton and Sons.” His motto was “No Job Too Small.” He also worked for the Williamsburg-James City County School System as a School Bus Driver.
Lowell will be remembered for all of the kind deeds he performed for people in his community, the elderly and those in need of his workmanship and willingness to assist people who needed home repairs, well and water problems, vehicle repair assistance, lawn care and many other odd jobs. He even travelled out of state to help family and friends in need of his service. He was a jack of all trades, another “MacGyver.” Most people in the Williamsburg area remember how he and his work buddies at the Pottery, ventured out and built homes from the ground up for each of their families.
He was a man of few words with a laugh that was unique, and he always had an infectious smile. His favorite sayings were, “Time is not on my side,” “You got your hands in my pocket,” and then you would get a lecture.
He leaves to cherish his memory with his children, Vicki Williams of Chesterfield, VA, Dirk Williams Sr. of Newport News, VA, Angelo Braxton (Kara) and Ryan Braxton, all of Williamsburg, VA, and a bonus son, James Vaughan Jr. of Williamsburg, VA; grandchildren, Dirk Williams Jr., Taesean Hicks, Imani Williams, Saniyah Belk, D’Asia Williams, Sierra Patterson, Shyvon Hall, Damian Hall, and Sterling Piggott; seven great-grandchildren; his former wife and mother of two of his sons Diane Druitt; siblings, Lloyd Alvin Braxton (Virginia “Mae”), Iris Laverne “Verne” Piggott, and Melvin “Jerome” Braxton Jr., all of Williamsburg, VA; nieces and nephews, Sheryl Snead, Stacey Braxton, Katrina Braxton, Lydell Braxton, and Dorella Braxton; special and dear friends; Brenda Williams, Deborah Vaughan, Brenda Bundy-Williams, Freddie Maloney, Edythe Ashlock-Bundy, June Williams, and James White; and a host other loving relatives, and friends.
A funeral service will be held at Noon on Friday, November 8, 2024, at Shiloh Baptist Church. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Braxton may be viewed on Friday beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the church.
Professional services have been entrusted to the staff of Whiting's Funeral Home, 7005 Pocahontas Trail, Williamsburg, Virginia 21385. 757-229-3011 whitingsfuneralhome.com
