On November 17, 2024, Mrs. Cynthia Annette Bagley, known to close friends as “Nettie”, made the transition from this earthly life into a blessed existence, where she will await the second coming of the Son of God, and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Mrs. Bagley was born on March 11, 1941, in Grafton, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Reverend Thomas and Corine Paige, and she was loved by them. Mrs. Bagley spent her teenage years in York County and attended James Weldon Johnson High School where she excelled in the subject of math. After graduating from high school in 1959, she attended Virginia Union College in Norfolk, Virginia. During her time there, she met Reginald Bagley, who was serving in the U.S. Navy. She was loved very much by him and after a period of courtship, Reginald proposed, and on January 14, 1961, the matrimonial ceremony for Cynthia and Reginald was performed at her mother's home by Reverend Boston Morrison, of Grafton Baptist Church - Harris Grove, Yorktown Virginia.
After her husband's Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Navy, the young newlyweds moved to Amityville, Long Island, New York, where they took up residence and began to raise their family. Mrs. Bagley was a wonderful homemaker, she taught her children to love God and his creations, to love their parents, as well as themselves, and to respect the rights of other persons. She fully understood that one day, their children would have to leave the protective security that life at home provided and venture out into the world where they would encounter many negative things. So, at an early age, she taught her children their phone number and address in a simple song, and to this day they still remember what she taught them, and for her tender care, she was gratefully and deeply loved by her children. Mrs. Bagley was a grateful, dedicated, and gentle mother, who nurtured two beautiful daughters, Adrienne D. Bagley, and Stacy L. Bagley, and one handsome son, Reginald T. Bagley into adulthood. Mrs. Bagley loved her family and her love was kind, not puffed up. It beared any things, believed many things, endured many things, never sought her own, and for all she did for them she was tenderly loved.
Mrs. Bagley was a conscientious member of the Hollywood Baptist Church in Amityville New York, for over thirty years. She was very active in its missions and was a member of the Senior Ushers, the leader of the Junior Ushers, a member of the Missionary Board, and President of the Deaconess Board. She was instrumental in persuading other board members to assist her in providing provisions to have a Repass for members of the church, as well as non-members grieving for the loss of a one but often did not have the financial means for such provision, or her dedication and compassion; she was loved.
Mrs. Bagley was employed by the New York Telephone Company, which was at that time generally known at that time as Ma Bell. Mrs. Bagley worked as an assistant engineer in Patchogue Long Island, New York office for over twenty years. Her job description was interpreting surveys in Suffolk County and Long Island in order to make certain correct information was available for the installation of telephone lines throughout the County. At Ma Bell, she was loved by those who were acquainted with her.
After retiring and relocating from New York to Yorktown, Virginia in 1995. Mrs. Bagley rejoined the church of her youth. She once again became a member of the Deaconess Board, and as its President, meticulously carried out her duties, and served in that capacity for over six years.
She regularly attended noonday and evening bible studies and was also a member of the B.W. Morrison Gospel Chorus in which she sang Soprano. Although not a soloist, Mrs. Bagley occasionally led the choir in song, for her dedication. She was supported by her family and friends, and she was warmly loved.
She was loved for how she guided her family
She was loved for her wonderful gentle personality and pleasant smile
She was loved for her compassion for others
She was loved for making some of the best potato salad, and sweet potato pies in the world
Most of all she was loved for her faithfulness to Jesus Christ
God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son so that those who believed in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life, and she was loved by Jesus Christ who blessed her in many, various ways.
Mrs. Bagley was a warm-hearted, compassionate, and hospitable person with an engaging smile, who often found it difficult to refuse the requests of other persons. She was a morally strong, determined, a wise person, and the one to whom all of her family members turned for thoughtful, firm, and wise decisions on various subjects. Over her lifetime, she did not allow the negatives things she confronted in society to change her love of God or her positive outlook on life, through it all, she remained faithful to the Lord and her family, and for that, she was greatly loved.
Years ago, in the presence of God, Mrs. Bagley promised she would remain with Reginald for better or worse, in poverty and richness, sickness and health, until death parted them, She took her vow seriously, and she kept that promise. To say that her family will miss her is an understatement, but we do not grieve as those who have no hope, for our hope is in the love of God. We are grateful for the time God allowed her to live with us and share her warm, generous, encompassing, Christian love. Mrs. Bagley will not be forgotten, her memory and legacy will be the love she had for Jesus Christ; and the love she bestowed on her husband who passionately loved her, and was forever thankful that God blessed him with such a sensitive, wonderful, caring, virtuous wife, and mother of their wonderful children. One of Mrs. Bagley's main desires as a mother was to see her children mature and be able to take care of themselves. God granted that desire, and she has now been called to her reward.
Mrs. Bagley was preceded in death by her parents, The Reverend Thomas Paige and First Lady Corine Vernon Paige; sisters, Connie Paige, Lena Palmer, Corine Banks, Evelyn Wright; and brother Randolph Paige
Mrs. Bagley's departure reduces her immediate family circle. She is survived by her loving husband Rev. Reginald Bagley; three children Adrienne D. Bagley, Stacy L. Bagley, and Reginald T. Bagley (Valerie); and sister Hestor Avery. She was greatly respected, gratefully, deeply, and wholeheartedly loved by her family, who believe that her spirit is resting in the love of Jesus Christ. Mrs. Bagley will be cherished for the blessing of having her as a wife, mother, and friend, and remember the good times.
Weeping may last for a night, but Joy comes in the morning. It’s the joy of believing that her spirit is resting in the love of Christ Jesus until the Trumpets sound and awake her in the last day when the dead in Christ shall rise and be changed.
Mrs. Bagley believed that nothing, not even death, can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus, or the love we have for each other. Her faith in Jesus convinced her that Death loses its dreadful sting, and the scourge of the dark grave cannot keep us. For God gives us victory over death in the resurrection of Christ Jesus. Therefore, Death does not have the last word, the last word is life in Christ Jesus, for Mrs. Bagley and us all Jesus gives us victory over death.
Mrs. Bagley is dead, we can say this without fear of what will happen to her spirit, she is gone and cannot come back to us. Her unwavering confidence that there is no place we can go that is not there and in Jesus' Great Promise to be with us always, even in the valley of the shadows of death. Her firm belief was that if she loved and obeyed Jesus to the best of her abilities, she will dwell in the house of the Lord ford forever.
She loved and was loved, but now rests in the love of Christ Jesus where there are no tears, pain, or sorrow. Sleep on "Dear" ( the affectionate name Cynthia and Reggie had for each other). Sleep on, rest in peace. The Lord bless you and keep you, The Lord make his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you, and us, peace in Christ Jesus. Amen
A funeral service to honor and celebrate Cynthia's life will be held at Noon on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Grafton Baptist Church - Harris Grove. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Bagley may be viewed beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the hour of her service in the church.
