On Monday, September 14, 2020, Darius Stanyon Brown died unexpectedly in Newport News, VA. His life began on March 2, 1998, in Prince George’s County, MD. to Stacey Harris and Rodney Brown.
Darius moved to Newport News in 2011. He was a 2016 graduate of Woodside High School and continued to further his education at Thomas Nelson Community College where he played basketball.
Darius’ fierce loyalty and big heart made him an ardent ally and a dreamer. Unfortunately, his untimely death prevented him from accomplishing those dreams and seeing them come true.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Peggy Brown and Juanita and Yale Harris, and uncle, Vance Harris. Darius leaves to cherish fond memories with his parents, Stacey Harris (Kimberly Johnson) and Rodney Brown (Angela Jones); sister, Yalisa Brown; nieces De’layna Jones, Teairra Jones, Royal Brown, and Alayah Beckford; and a beautiful village of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A walkthrough viewing will be held from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm on Thursday, September 24, 2020, at Whiting’s Funeral Home. Face coverings and social distancing are required. A Facebook Livestream service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 25, 2020, at whitingsfuneralhome.com. Interment services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, in Greenlawn Cemetery, Newport News, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in Darius’ name to Menchville House www.MenchvilleHouse.com/donate. Menchville House is an emergency housing facility in Newport News, offering needy families services and support to return to self-sufficiency, especially during these uncertain times.
