Deacon Allen Jones Sr. Obituary

Allen R. Jones, Sr., was born on July 22, 1940, to the late  Armethis and Lucille (nee King) Jones, in Edwards, Mississippi.   He was the oldest brother of his nine siblings.

He was educated in the Greenville, Mississippi Area where he developed a love for applied mathematics, a field in which he was gifted.  In 1965, he moved to Connecticut and attended an Adult Technical Program at E C Goodwin Technical High School, New Britain, CT, where he received a Certificate in Statistical Processing.  He also attended an eight-week Certification Program at the School of Engineering and Applied Science at Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey.  Education was extremely important to Deacon Jones.  He put some of his children through college as well as his wife; provided educational opportunities for each of them to be adequately equipped for a professional career of their choice.

Allen was a member of the True Vine Baptist Church in New Britain, Connecticut, where he served as Chairman of the Deacon Ministry, Chairman of the Trustee Ministry, an Adult Sunday School Teacher, and in the Pastor's absence, he would preach the Word.  He was also responsible for the Weekly Prayer Service.  His favorite song was “Climbing Jacob’s Ladder.” No one could sing that song like Deacon Jones!  At the time of his passing, he served as Chairman of the Deacon Ministry at Angel View Baptist Church.

He was a Certified Metallurgist with Stanley Works, now known as ACME Steel, in New Britain, Connecticut.  During his professional career Deacon Jones received several certificates and numerous awards in recognition of his performance.  Allen retired as a Metallurgist Manager after more than forty years of service.

In addition to his parents, Allen was predeceased by two brothers, Leroy Jones and Arthur L. Jones, and one sister. Flora Spencer.
