Delores "Dee" Bagby Obituary

With grateful hearts, we celebrate the life of Delores "Dee" Jones Bagby, who peacefully entered into the presence of her Lord on July 14, 2026.

Born in Tarboro, North Carolina, to the late Fred Jones and Teolo Carney Jones, Delores lived a life rooted in faith, service, and love. She was educated in the District of Columbia Public Schools and earned her degree from the University of the District of Columbia. She devoted her career to the Richmond Public School System, serving as a teacher, Mathematics Resource Specialist, and Liaison Specialist.

A devoted member and Deacon of New Zion Baptist Church, Delores served faithfully in many ministries. She was also a Golden Life Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® and an active member of Lambda Lambda Omega Chapter.

Affectionately known as "Dee," she will be remembered for her quiet elegance, gentle spirit, and servant’s heart. She enjoyed sewing and quilting. With the Bookies of Williamsburg, Delores also became a published author whose short story, Troubled Waters, appeared in the book The Kentland River Washout, a collection of stories written by fellow book club members.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband of fifty-six years, Carl I. Bagby; her sisters, Dorothy Virginia Staton and Betty E. Staton; her extended family; and a host of loving relatives, friends, sorority sisters, church family, former students, and colleagues.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice House of Williamsburg, Virginia, in her memory https://williamsburghospice.org/donations/support/.

A service to celebrate Dee's life will be held at noon on Friday, July 31, 2026, at New Zion Baptist Church.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The Ivy Beyond the Wall ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by the viewing beginning at 11:30 a.m. until the hour of her service.

Professional services have been entrusted to the staff of Whiting's Funeral Home, 7005 Pocahontas Trail, Williamsburg, Virginia 23185. 757-229-3011 whitingsfuneralhome.com
