God has not always promised skies always blue, flower-strewn pathways, all our lives through;
God has not promised sun without rain, joy without sorrow, peace without pain,
but God has promised strength for today, rest for the labor, light for the way,
grace for the trails, help from above, unfailing sympathy, and undying love.
Deloris Christian Graves was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 10, 2023. Her life began on July 23, 1958, the daughter of Blanche Reed and the late Calvin Berkeley.
Deloris confessed Christ at an early age and joined Chickahominy Baptist Church in Toano, VA. She attended Lafayette High School and was employed as a floor tech at Eastern State Hospital for fifteen years and UNC for fifteen years.
Deloris was a loving daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and fishing was her favorite hobby. Deloris was a kind and loving person. Always willing to help anyone in need. She was the only family member that would call and sing happy birthday on your special day. She would sing “Ride Out the Storm,” when we felt bad. Deloris will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Kelvin Staffon, four sisters, and four brothers.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her mother, Blanche Reed; son, Kelvin Christian; grandsons, Jeremiah and Joshiah; granddaughter Stormy; godson, Kareem Landers; sisters, Delphine Gray and Helen Landers; brother, Pedesdo Reed (Josephine); two aunts, Rosalie Bowman (Bernard) and Levonia Lee (John); a special daughter, Katrina Sims; her very loving, caring, and devoted Fiance, who she loved with all of her heart, Dean Ball; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A service to celebrate Deloris’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Chickahominy Baptist Church. Livestream will be available at the beginning of the service. Interment to follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park. Ms. Graves may be viewed on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of her service in the church. Facial coverings are required.
