Derrick M. Briggs Sr was born on March 8, 1963, to Martha and the late William H. Briggs Jr. On Saturday, February 27, 2021, he was reunited with his dad and sister, Mona L. Briggs, in eternal rest.
He was educated in the Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools, and was an automobile mechanic by trade, working for several companies maintaining their fleet.
Derrick was a devoted father and grandfather and friend. He was a friendly person who never met a stranger. He would do anything for anyone. If you were stuck on the side of the road, Derrick would help you whether he knew you or not. He loved to eat, especially his mother’s rice pudding and carrot cake, and we don't want to forget his favorite Boston Baked Beans. We all know Derrick was a little unconventional. He moved to his own beat but that didn’t take away from the person that he was or wanted to be.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen Sabrina Briggs; son, Derrick Briggs Jr. (Alexus); daughter, Alaina Briggs; two grandchildren, Derrick Briggs III and MyKial Briggs; mother, Martha Briggs; brothers, William Briggs III, Thomas Briggs, Darren Jackson (Brenda), and Steven Jackson (Sherry); sisters, Germaine Johnson, Dorothy Parrott (Bobby), Victoria White (William), Cecelia Johnson, Loretta Briggs and Mona Washington (Jeffery); and a host of other relatives and friends.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2021, in Whiting’s Funeral Home, with a time of reflections from 3:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. CDC precautions with facial coverings and social distancing required.
