Don Elton Christian, a beloved father, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend, transitioned into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. His passing leaves an empty place in the hearts of all who loved him.
Don was preceded in death by his mother Ann E. Christian; brother-in-law Calvin Watson; and several aunts and uncles.
His memories will be cherished by his two children, Don E. Christian, Jr. (LaPorscha) of Mechanicsville, VA and Latrice R. Christian of Newport News, VA; siblings, Cheryle Watson, Bruce Christian, Wanda Seals (Frank), and Miriam “Tina” Pickett (Darren), all of Newport News, VA ; and a host of loving aunts, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews, cousins, and friends.
Don was a native of Newport News and graduated from Denbigh High School. As a youth, he enjoyed hunting with his grandfather. After graduating, he worked for several roofing companies before going to work as a Burner at the Newport News Shipyard, where he used torches to burn metal plates, preparing them for shipbuilding.
After leaving the shipyard, he drove for tractor-trailer companies carrying containers across the country. Don was a hard worker and enjoyed working with his hands. This led him to later start a successful home contracting business doing excellent work in roofing, fencing, tile work, siding, decking, sheds, pool installations, and interior renovation, including utility repairs.
In addition to hunting, Don enjoyed golfing, fishing, repairing cars, and spending time at family gatherings and with friends. He was always good for a laugh with the things he would say. He always showed up with an appetite, more than willing to offer suggestions for food he wanted prepared for him. He loved anything that had gravy.
The Christian family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for everyone’s prayers and kind words while they navigate these difficult waters.
A memorial service to celebrate Don’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Whiting’s Funeral Home.
Professional services have been entrusted to the staff of Whiting's Funeral Home, 7005 Pocahontas Trail, Williamsburg, Virginia 23185. 757-229-3011 whitingsfuneralhome.com
