Donald Nathanial Epps Sr. was born on February 6, 1946, to the late James M. Epps and Shirley Mae Harris, in Washington, DC.
Donald attended Langley Junior High School in Washington, DC, and graduated from Central High School in King and Queen County, VA, in 1964. He continued his education, graduating from Bell Vocational School in Washington D.C. and later enlisted in the United States Air Force where he gained the knowledge to become a very successful pipefitter.
Donald was married to Adelia M. Epps and to this union two sons were born, Donald Nathaniel Epps Jr. and DuRaun Nathan Epps.
He worked at Smurfit-Stone in West Point, VA (formerly known as Chesapeake Corporation) as a Triple-A Pipefitter for 45 years, 2 months and 1 day. He retired in 2009.
Donald was well known for his incredible bass and baritone voice. He proudly used it for singing, narrating and many other activities and community affiliations.
His passions were his dog, Butch and singing with multiple choirs at various churches and other locations throughout Virginia. He also enjoyed rooting for his beloved, hometown football team... the Washington Redskins!
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, grandparents, and Uncle, Webster Epps. Donald leaves to cherish his incredible memories his significant other, Maxine White; two sons, Donald N. Epps Jr (Aniya Epps) and DuRaun N. Epps (Trina Epps); two grandsons, Nathan A. Epps and Donald N. Epps III; granddaughter, Gabrielle Epps; former spouse, Adelia M. Epps; brother, Louis “Roy” Gardener; aunt, Muriel Epps; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family members, and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 28, 2020, at St. John Baptist Church, Williamsburg. Interment with Military Honors to follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Epps may be viewed on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
