Doris L. Lee was born on March 13, 1945, to the late Chestine and Wade Cobbs Sr., of Vicksburg, Mississippi. Her earthly journey was traded for eternal rest on Monday, October 27, 2025, at home.
Growing up in the Vicksburg area, Doris graduated from Rosa A. Temple High School. She later relocated to Gary, Indiana, where she retired from the local school system as a cafeteria worker.
Doris loved the Lord and served as an Usher, a Sunday School Teacher, and on the Nurses’ Guild of Consuming Fire Ministries in Gary, Indiana.
Doris enjoyed family gatherings and the holidays, especially Christmas, when she would set up her Christmas Village in her home. Each year, the village grew larger and larger. She loved her family, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a special place in her heart.0
She was also preceded in death by five siblings, Florence McCullum, Ernestine Evans, Johnnie Wilson, Willie Cobbs, and Jimmie Cobbs.
She leaves to cherish fond memories with her husband, Isaiah Lee; daughter, Gwendolyn Franklin; son, Larry Franklin Jr.; grandchildren, Larry Franklin III and Dion Sutton; 2 great-grandchildren; sister, Bertha Murphy (John); brothers, Wade Cobbs Jr. (Fallie) and Eddie Cobbs (Lynnette); and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 3, 2025, at Whiting's Funeral Home, with a viewing beginning one hour prior. Interment to follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park.
