Doris Lockley Obituary

On Monday, December 14, 2020, at 5:11 a.m., God, in his magnificent power, dispatched his angels to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital on a spiritual mission. The mission was to bring our beloved mother & grandma, Mrs. Doris M. Lockley, to her heavenly home to be with Him.  She was born on October 6, 1941, daughter of the late Carrie and Sylvester Piggott Sr., in Williamsburg, Virginia.

At an early age, she professed Jesus Christ as her Lord & savior, joining Shiloh Baptist Church. Later, she joined Mt. Hope Apostolic Faith Church of God in Williamsburg, where she remained a faithful member until her demise.  She was the President of the Missionaries, member of the Pastoral Treasurer committee, choir member and served on the Trustee Board. Her faithful dedication to the Lord was unspeakable and uncanny. “Good and Faithful Servant, Well Done take your much-deserved rest.”

She was educated in the Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools.  She started her career at Eastern State and retired after 22 dedicated years of services.

On June 6, 1961 she was united in Holy Matrimony to the late John BR Lockley Sr.  Unto this union, they were blessed with four children.

Her love for God was so captivating, that she could illuminate any room. Her humble and quiet spirit exemplifies God as she spread the good news of the Lord. This Virtuous Woman price is far above rubies. She openeth her mouth with wisdom, and in her tongue is the law of righteousness. She was always dedicated to her family, church, and the many lives that she has touched along her journey in life. She will be sadly missed, but her precious memories will linger in our hearts forever.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Daisy Piggott, LouAda Pierce, Temple Piggott Sr., Albert Piggott, Sylvester Piggott Jr., Phillip Piggott, and son-in law, Rickey Strong Sr.  She leaves to cherish her precious memories with her devoted daughters, Alma Strong, Altina Lockley, Anita Lockley & niece/daughter Bernette Piggott, all of Williamsburg, Va.; son, John Lockley Jr., of Lawrenceville, Va.; precious and beloved grand-daughter, Rickayla Strong; four sisters-in-law, devoted Theresa Piggott, of Williamsburg, Rose Lockley of Georgia, Catherine Towler of Maryland, and Betty Lockley of New York; brother-in-law, Albert Lockley of New York; special nieces, Dorothy Johnson of Richmond and Josephine Wright-Crawley of Richmond; special nephews, Don Pierce and Rodney Pierce, both of Williamsburg; special and devoted friends, Mother Flossie Davis & Elisa Parker; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, December 18, 2020, in Whiting's Chapel.  Due to the current health pandemic, only 50 people may be in attendance with facial coverings and social distancing required.  Mrs. Lockley may be viewed from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
