Dorothy Jane Harrell departed this earthly life on Thursday, May 13, 2021, in Williamsburg Sentara Regional Medical Center. On April 5, 1949, she was born in Surry County, VA, to Early and Daisy Stringfield.
She was educated at L. P. Jackson School in Surry County, VA.
She retired from Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, Kings Arms Tavern, after 30 years of service.
Dorothy loved playing bingo and going fishing. She was known for cooking hot fried crabs and fish for her family and friends.
“Dust”, as her family and friends knew her, was preceded in death by her daughter, Angela “Cookie” Brown; one sister, Estell Gay, and four brothers, Boley Stringfield, Clarence Stringfield, Early Stringfield, Jr., and Horace Stringfield.
Her precious memories will forever live in the hearts of her children, Michelle Ashby (Ellery), Carlos Watson and Tina Watson, all of Williamsburg, VA; her fiancé, Robert Meekins of Williamsburg, VA; three sisters, Daisy Pierce (Albert) and Elsie Robertson (Roylee), all of Smithfield, VA, and Maryliza Winn (James) of Wakefield, VA; son-in-law, Jeffrey Brown; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and many caring friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 22, 2021, in Whiting’s Funeral Home. Due to the current health pandemic, only 50 people may be in attendance with facial coverings and social distancing requirements. Livestream will be available at the start of the service. Interment to follow in Booker T. Memorial Park, Wakefield, Virginia. Mrs. Harrell may be viewed starting at 9:00 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
