Elnora W. (Wallace) Smith

Elnora W. Smith peacefully entered eternal life on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News, Virginia.  She was the daughter of William and Bessie Wallace and the mother of David and Willie Smith.

Elnora loved the Lord with all of her heart and never ceased to talk of His goodness in her life and that of her family. At a young age, she dedicated her life to the Lord.  She was a longtime member of New Quarters Baptist Church where she sang in the senior choir and held the office of President for more than twenty years. She was also a part of the Missionary Ministry and was a member of the senior usher board for many years.  She took pride in taking care of her family and worked many years as a domestic worker until she retired.  

"Ms. Elnora," as many lovingly called her, was a kind and loving woman who always gave of herself, and was always willing to help anyone. She was full of life always having a smile on her face that was filled with laughter.  She was a wonderful mother to her children who meant the world to her.  She supported them in every way that she could. She would often talked about them and her love for them and all that they did for her.  She was also a loving sister, aunt, grandmother, cousin, and friend.  She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Even though she was well-loved by many, the Lord loved her more. So we now can find peace in knowing that she now rests in the arms of our Lord Jesus.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Bessie Jones Wallace Sr.; one daughter who died at birth; granddaughter Jessica Smith; four brothers, Theodore Wallace, William Wallace Jr., James Wallace, and Arthur Wallace; sister Louise Freeman; three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law.

Her precious memories will forever be cherished by her sons, David Smith and Willie Smith; granddaughter Janelle Smith; goddaughter Dorothy Parrott (Robert); god-granddaughter Jelani Briggs; three sisters, Alice Robinson, Estelle Powell, and Juanita Griffin; two brothers, Raymond Wallace and Harold Wallace; two special nieces, Margaret Ferguson and Rev. Dr. Juanita Allen; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Whiting's Funeral Home. Interment to follow in New Quarter Baptist Church Cemetery.  Mrs. Smith may be viewed on Thursday beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the hour of her service.
