“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30
Emily A. Buchanan made her transition home to our heavenly Father on April 6, 2020. She was born on May 9, 1939 daughter of the late Joe Ivy and Thelma Ezell Buchanan, in Mississippi. Emily loved the Lord and served faithfully by giving back to others daily.
She was also preceded in death by her sister, Mae Douglas, and brothers, R.L. Buchanan and Bobby Joe Buchanan. Emily leaves to mourn four children, Shelby Clark, Lisa McGhee, Ahmar Clark, Stanley McGhee and grandson, Nathan McGhee, whom she called her “five precious ones”; two siblings, Anne Adams and Ivy Wright; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
We, the Family of Emily A. Buchanan wish to acknowledge the many acts and expressions of sympathy shown to us during our time of bereavement. We offer our heartfelt thanks to many friends and co-workers as well as Dr. Gwen Williams, Sentara Hampton, for her excellent care and relentless dedication, and Mary Adams, Palliative Care, Sentara Hampton for walking closely with us during the final weeks. We are truly grateful to you. May God continue to bless each of you.
A special thank you to Whiting’s Funeral Home for providing excellent care to our mom.
Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the family has decided to delay a memorial service until a later date. Her final resting place will be in Mississippi near her family.
The family has asked that all donations and cards be sent to her daughter Lisa.
