Eric Taylor Obituary

On October 20, 1964, Eric, the youngest of nine children was born to the union of Virginia M. and the late George W. Taylor Sr.

At an early age, he was baptized and joined St. John Baptist Church, Toano.  He was raised in Williamsburg and educated in the Williamsburg-James City Public Schools.  His work career started as a waiter at the Seafare Restaurant.  People would often recant how Eric could take an order from a large group without writing it down and everyone’s order came out correct.

He loved music, cooking out, and spending time with family and friends.  He will surely be missed by all who knew him, but we find peace in knowing that now he rests in the arms of Jesus.

Eric is predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Moses and Mayedia Moore; paternal grandparents, James and Marian Taylor; uncle and aunt, Russell and Mary Bowman; brothers, George Jr., Terrence, Kenneth, Clarence and Michael Taylor, James Cowles, and Nathan Carter; nieces, Aronda Cary and Shawna Cary-Hall.  He leaves to cherish his fond memories, his sons, Eric and Brandon Jackson, both of Toano and their mother, Odessa Jackson of Williamsburg; daughter, Daysha Taylor of Williamsburg and stepdaughter, Majesty Banks of Washington State, and their mother, Shannon Piggott of Williamsburg; grandchildren, Anthony Jackson of Williamsburg, Jeremiah Rakes of Toano, and Azyah Jackson of Newport News; mother, Virginia M. Taylor of Williamsburg; sisters, Odessa Cary of Toano, Yvonne Kee (James) of Williamsburg, and Genetha Cooley (Melvin) of Charles City; brothers, Richard Taylor of Williamsburg and Warren Carter of Toano; uncles, Fred Moore Sr. (Ann) and Raymond Bowman Sr. (Rosetta), both of Williamsburg; aunts, Vivian Frazier (Preston) of Bowling Green, Hazel Taylor and Joyce Piggott (Raymond), both of Williamsburg; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, February 20, 2021, at Whiting’s Funeral Home with Dr. Morris L. Randall Sr. officiating.  Interment to follow in New Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.  Due to the current health pandemic, only 50 people may be in attendance with facial coverings and social distancing requirements.  Facebook Livestream will be available at the beginning of the service.  Mr. Taylor may be viewed on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the hour of his service.
