Ernest "Dirtty Redd" Lee Gary

Ernest Lee Gary aka “Dirtty Redd” was born on March 24, 1955, in Murfreesboro, North Carolina to Cecil Aron Vaughan and Inez Tann.  He was later adopted by Dorothy Elizabeth and Willie Rainey Gary. He was a faithful servant who went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center, Williamsburg, VA.

He attended Southampton High school.  He served his country with the United States Navy and Army.  He was honorably discharged after serving four years in each branch.  He was later employed by Branscome, Inc. for over 20 years.

A loving person who showed affection to everyone he met, Ernest loved family gatherings and spending time with his brothers-in-law. He was loved and will be dearly missed by all. He will forever be in our hearts.

He was preceded in death by his biological parents, adoptive parents, and brothers, William Vaughan and Butch Vaughan.

His memories will always remain with his loving wife of 22 years, Gloria Gary; children, Nicholas Ramsey, Ernestine Loggins, Vernell Lee, James Legrand, and Sarah Nelson (Jamaal); grandchildren, LaTroya Payne (Symone), Donavia Hunter (Daniel), Deionn Loggins (Cherelle), Chaz Lee, Julian Lee, Chenell Lee, Jayden Mailizia, Justin Nelson, Cyrus Boyd, Azurea Ramsey, Sincere Ramsey, and Arianne Ratcliff; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Diane ‘Cookie’ Gibson, Doris Morrell, and Vernell Faulcon; dedicated friend, Steven ‘Iron Man’ Latibeaudiere; and a host of nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 30, 2021, at Whiting’s Funeral Home.  Facial coverings and social distancing are required.  Livestream will be available at the beginning of the service. Mr. Gary may be viewed from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
