Eugene "Chucky" Lewis Richeson

Eugene Lewis Richeson departed this life on September 7, 2024, after a long battle with Gastric Cancer. He was born on September 24, 1961, the youngest of four children born to Carlyle E. and Shirley L. Richeson.

At an early age, he was baptized at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church.  He was educated in the Williamsburg-James City County Public School System; attending Lafayette High School.  Shortly after after high school, he was married and was blessed with four children.

Eugene was an avid swimmer and swam daily at Quarterpath Park Pool as a young child. He loved to play the drums and went fishing anytime he could. He played drums professionally and also in various churches. He was also a great singer, who sang in the church choir and would sing anywhere that he and his sister Carol and brother Aron could harmonize, including house parties. He loved music and would sing a hymn without warning.  His favorite hymn was “Give Me A Clean Heart.”

Eugene was also a wonderful artist. He created beautiful greeting cards for special occasions, upon request or just because. Every card was inspired by his love for people, relationships, and God. He was very talented and gifted.

Eugene moved to the Newport News/Hampton area where he worked as a Painter for various contractors in the surrounding area. In 2020 he was diagnosed with Cancer and was told he had six months to live. He miraculously survived the odds to live 4½ more years to the amazement of his doctors.

Eugene was a person who was thoughtful, and kind-hearted with a warm smile. He loved to tell jokes and would give his all to you if he believed you needed it. He saw the best in others and always wanted to help even when he sometimes needed help himself. He had a big heart and loved people.

He is preceded in death by his mother Shirley L. Preston; and brother Aron D. Richeson.

He is survived by his father, Carlyle E Richeson (Helen); sons, Eugene L. Richeson Jr. and Corey S. Richeson; daughters, Tiffany Richeson and Shanika Richeson; eleven grandchildren, Kayani L. Richeson, Kaden L. Richeson, Na’Lante A. Henretta, Ta’Zyiah L. Richeson Ashby, Corey Roberts, Jason Pittman, Kahree Richeson, Ryleigh Richeson, NyAsia K. Richeson, Ava Johnson, and Amari Richeson; three great-grandchildren, Karsi D. Richeson, Samyra S. Marcus, and Ky’Mir L. Richeson; sisters, LaVoris Carol Hill (Dexter),  Robbie M. Saunders (Earl), and Benita T. West (Kevin) ; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

A memorial service to honor Eugene's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 13, 2024, at Whiting Funeral Home.
