Faye Otey

On Monday, December 14, 2020 @ 4:13 p.m., Faye Lawrence Otey closed her eyes surrounded by her loving family.  After a battle with throat cancer, she said she wanted to rest and see her mother who passed 20 years ago.

Faye’s life began on May 27, 1948 in New Kent County, Va., daughter of the late Esther M. Lawrence and Woodrow Brown of Charles City, Va.

Faye worked as a Housekeeper at Mt. Vernon Lodge until she retired and married in 1986.

She loved and nurtured her siblings like a second Mom. Faye loved the Lord and wasn’t ashamed to tell anyone she met. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, James City, and was a faithful member until her health began to fail.

Faye was preceded in death by her baby girl, Danita Mae Lawrence.  She leaves behind to cherish her memories, her husband Harry Otey; son, Steven Lawrence; siblings, Sherlene Hawkins (Everett, Sr.) of Newport News, Blanche, Caroline, Norma and Ulysses (Junie) Lawrence of Williamsburg, Va.; six  grandchildren, whom she loved and adored, Danita Piggott who lovingly, and unselfishly cared for her until her demise, Steven Piggott, Gabrielle Piggott, Diamond Lawrence, Denard Dickerson, and Quinton Ouzts; eight great grandchildren; uncle, Deacon Anthony Lawrence, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon. Monday, December 21, 2020, at Whiting’s Chapel.  Due to the current health pandemic, only 50 people may be in attendance with facial coverings and social distancing being required.  Facebook Livestream will be available at the beginning of this service.  Please return to this page at that time to access the livestream.
